Slovenian Transport Minister Janez Bozic has continued his four-day visit to Russia on Wednesday by participating in the Bajkalsk Economic Forum and meeting Russian counterpart Igor Levitin. Bozic and Levitin focused on possible cooperation between Slovenia and Russia in the areas of road, sea, rail and air transport.
Levitin displayed detailed interest in the development of Slovenia's sole port operator Luka Koper and was provided all the details by its CEO Robert Casar, who was accompanying Bozic.
As regards road transport, Rajko Sirocic, CEO of Slovenian Motorway Company (DARS), said that it was established that there is no difficulty in issuing haulage licences between the two countries, according to Bozic.
Slovenia plans to offer their Russian partners a tour of the Slovenian motorway tolls system and of the system for the control and the surveillance of traffic.
Joze Jurkovic, the general manager of the Slovenian Railways, on the other hand, participated in discussions about a possible speeding up of the cargo traffic in the 5th pan-European corridor.
The participants of the forum are planning another meeting in December, when they are also expected to touch on the opening of new air routes between the two countries. According to Bozic, both sides are interested in a connection between Maribor and Saint Petersburg.
In Bozic's words there were many good things said about Slovenia at the forum. "They see Slovenia as a successful country, which has managed, without major shocks, to go beyond the tradition of socialism and enter a new form of statehood."
