President Receives Credentials of New German Ambassador
Ljubljana, 19 September
New German Ambassador to Slovenia Hans-Joachim Goetz presented his credentials to President Janez Drnovsek on Tuesday. Drnovsek also received the outgoing Greek Ambassador John N. Boucaouris, the president's office said.
Drnovsek and Goetz agreed that economic cooperation between Slovenia and Germany was important for strengthening the partnership between the countries. The pair also concluded that the new German ambassador's term in Slovenia came at an important time when both countries are preparing to hold the EU presidency. Germany will hold the rotating presidency in the first half of next year, while Slovenia will do so a year later. Meanwhile, Drnovsek and Boucaouris assessed relations between Slovenia and Greece as good and concluded that the cooperation between the countries was on the rise, especially in business. Boucaouris also voiced his support for Drnovsek's initiative for solving the crisis in Darfur. Boucaouris has been in Slovenia since January 2005.
