Slovenia Welcomes Security Council Resolution on Lebanon
Slovenia has welcomed the adoption of a UN Security Council resolution calling for the full cessation of hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah.
In Saturday's press release, the Slovenian Foreign Ministry called on both sides involved to fully respect the provisions of resolution 1701. It also said it expected the Security Council to take a decision on further measures to solve the crisis.
Slovenia hopes that the resolution will indeed lead to a cessation of hostilities, allow for the unhindered administration of humanitarian aid to civilians in affected areas and contribute to a sustainable solution to the crisis.
The UN vote came nearly a month after the start of the conflict in which 1,000 Lebanese and 120 Israelis have been killed. Some 15,000 foreign peace keepers are to be sent to south Lebanon in line with the resolution.
