Dissident Pucnik Gets Order for Exceptional Services
President Janez Drnovsek has posthumously decorated dissident Joze Pucnik (1932-2003) with an Order of Exceptional Services for his "lifetime contribution to democratisation, independence and international recognition of Slovenia," the president's office said on Wednesday.
Joze Pucnik, one of the most distinguished actors in Slovenia's struggle for independence, was the co-founder of the Slovenian Democrats' (SDS) predecessor SDSS and the president of Demos, a coalition of parties which won the first democratic elections in Slovenia in 1990.
The order, which will be formally conferred on Thursday, is awarded to individuals for their exceptional work and services rendered in advancing the sovereignty, prosperity, renown and progress of Slovenia in culture, economy, science and politics.
