NATO Official Sees Slovenia as a Credible NATO Partner
Slovenia is a country that takes seriously its commitments to the NATO-led operations in Kosovo and Afghanistan, John P. Colston, NATO assistant secretary general for defence policy and planning, said in Ljubljana on Tuesday as the Defence Review Committee that he heads paid a visit.
Speaking to the press after talks with Defence Minister Karl Erjavec, Colston also said that Slovenia was serious in developing its defence capabilities to meet the challenges and risks of the 21st century.
Erjavec meanwhile said that the committee's visit was meant as a presentation of Slovenia's defence plans and capabilities, while the NATO delegation will also have the chance to see for itself how Slovenia is carrying out its NATO obligations.
The committee members will leave Slovenia on Friday, in the meantime visiting the Franc Rozman Stane military barracks and the military doctrine command, and get acquainted with the development and future plans of the Cerklje na Krki airbase.
The committee is the senior advisory committee to the Defence Planning Committee on force planning and other issues relating to the integrated military structure.
It drafts political guidelines, including the objectives and systems of defence planning, and deals with the development of battle and logistics support and other issues related to military capabilities.
