"Uglasevanje" Wins Vesuvio Award at Naples Film Festival
The latest film by the up-and-coming director Igor Sterk "Uglasevanje" (Tuning) won the "Vesuvio Award" main prize at the 8th Naples Film Festival, held between 4 and 11 June in Italy's Naples, the Slovenian Film Fund said on Monday.
According to the jury, Sterk's third feature was awarded for a simple yet powerful depiction of an everyday middle-class family whose life is suddenly turned upside down because of the frustration and lies among the married couple.
Sterk's drama, produced by A.A.C. Productions, starring Peter Musevski, Natasa Burger, Polona Juh and Andraz Polic, depicts the highs and lows of an intimate relationship between a couple in their late 30s unable to live together anymore and at the same time unable to find the strength to separate.
This is Sterk's second international award after winning the best feature film award at the 54th Mannheim-Heidelberg Film Festival in November 2005.
Meanwhile, black comedy "Odgrobadogroba" (Gravehopping) by acclaimed director and screenwriter Jan Cvitkovic won the special jury award as well as the CICAE award, conferred by the international association of art cinemas, at the 22nd Troia film festival that took place in Portugal's Setubal between 2 and 11 June.
This brings the total number of international awards for Cvitkovic's second feature film to eleven, the most important being the Altadis award for best debut or second film at the festival in Spain's San Sebastian.
Set in a small village, "Gravehopping" is a back comedy about a funeral speech writer. With humour peculiar to him, Cvitkovic portrays an unlikely bunch, including a man who refuses to speak and one who continuously tries to commit suicide.
Produced by Staragara, the film was written and directed by Cvitkovic. It features Gregor Bakovic, Natasa Matjasec, Sonja Savic, Mojca Fatur and Primoz Petkovsek, among others.
