Slovenian Film Visits Poland
The city of Katowice is hosting the first retrospective of Slovenian film in Poland since 1991, offering seven films that provide a dynamic insight into what some of Slovenia's most acclaimed authors put on screen in the past decade.
The retrospective, running from 2 to 8 June, features two films by Jan Cvitkovic, namely "Kruh in Mleko" (Brad and Milk) and "Srce je kos mesa" (The Heart Is a Piece of Meat).
The Polish film lovers will also be able to watch Janez Burger's "V leru" (Idle Running), Saso Podgorsek's "Sladke Sanje" (Sweet Dreams), "Slepa Pega" (Blind Spot) by Hanna A. W. Slak, Damjan Kozole's "Rezervni Deli" (Spare Parts) and Vinko Moderndorfer's "Predmestje" (Suburb).
While the initiative for the retrospective came from Andreja Surlo, the head of the Slovenian language course at Katowice University, the programme was selected by the Slovenian Film Fund.
This is the second foreign retrospective of Slovenian film in 2006. The first happened as part of the international Bradford Film Festival.
According to a press release from the film fund, similar presentations of Slovenia's film production are also planned this year at festivals in Valencia, Helsinki and Budapest.
