The English translation of the cookbook "The Cuisine of Slovenia" has earned a special mention award given out as part of the annual Gourmand World Cookbook Awards. The jury of the acclaimed gastronomic magazine Gourmand praised the book for its "versatile uniqueness".
"The Cuisine of Slovenia" is a modern Slovenian cooking bible, based on Slovenia's culinary heritage. It offers 50 menus categorised according to the four seasons of the year.
It was published in 2005 by Darila Rokus and is the work of Janez Bogataj, Slavko Adamlje, Julij Nemanic, photographer Janez Puksic and designer Zare Kerin.
About 6,000 books from more than 60 countries competed for awards in 34 categories for cookbooks and in 14 categories which included books on oenology.
This year's award ceremony, organised each year by a different country, is to take place on 20 May in Kuala Lumpur with "The Cuisine of Slovenia" being represented by Rokus director Rok Kvaternik and author Janez Bogataj.
In 2005 Rokus's "Slovenian Wines" was awarded the Gourmand prize for the world's best wine guide.
