Jansa: Slovenia Firmly Anchored in EU

In its two years of membership, Slovenia has firmly anchored itself in the EU, with several objective criteria proving it to be the undisputed front-runner among new member states, PM Janez Jansa told the press today.

Jansa pointed to the increase in purchasing power, the meeting of criteria of the revised stability and growth pact and of the euro adoption criteria.
According to Jansa, the fulfillment of the Maastricht criteria is "one of Slovenia's biggest projects of the past decade, which is sure to have a significant macroenomic impact on Slovenia's economy."

In the two years of membership, Slovenia has thus done all necessary for "the next big step within this association, a step into EU's inner circle" as it will become the 13th member of the eurozone.

As regards Slovenia's upcoming EU challenges, Jansa pointed to the implementation of the Lisbon Strategy and Slovenia's presidency of the bloc in the first half of 2008.
