Slovenia to Join European Defence Procurement Scheme
The government has endorsed Slovenia's joining of the voluntary code of conduct of the European Defence Agency, which enters into force on 1 July and is designed to open up defence procurement in the EU to more cross-border competition.
This system is crucial for the establishment of free trade in defence equipment in the EU, and the subsequent creation of a single European market for defence procurement.
The code of conduct affects only contracts worth more that one million euros, except for research and technology, collaborative procurements, and procurements of nuclear weapons and nuclear propulsion systems, chemical, bacteriological and radiological goods and services, and cryptographic equipment.
The relevant calls to tender will be published by the EDA, whereby the government will ensure equal opportunities to all producers and suppliers, and set clear standards for the selection of bidders, the office explained in its press release.
