Journalist Joze Hudecek Receives Lifetime Achievement Award

Ljubljana, 13 April

Journalist, editor and critic Joze Hudecek received the lifetime achievement award as the Slovenian Association of Journalists conferred its annual Consortium Veritatis (Brotherhood of Truth) awards on Thursday in Ljubljana.

As the award panel explained its choice, Hudecek has in his 40-year career marked Slovenian journalism with numerous shows, documentaries and interviews, including with French existentialist Jean-Paul Sartre and US playwright Arthur Miller.
The award for outstanding journalism went to journalist and commentator Meta Roglic of the daily Dnevnik, a leading political analyst, for her professionalism, accuracy and ability to distinguish the relevant from only seemingly important.
Another outstanding journalism award was bestowed on free-lance journalist Meta Krese for her reports published in 2005 in the Saturday editions of the daily Delo, and in the weekly Mladina, in which she has pointed to injustice and the consequences of human cruelty.
Janja Intihar of the regional magazine Novi tednik and the local Radio Celje, dubbed by the jury as an experienced journalist, received the award for outstanding achievements in local and regional media.
The best up-and-coming journalists became Matija Stepisnik of the daily Vecer for dealing with different topics with a true instinct, and Dejan Ladika of the national broadcaster TV Slovenija, who has grown into an analyst and creates top news pieces.
Jaka Adamic of Dnevnik was awarded for the best photo report of the year, a report on the Croatian southern region of Kninska krajina, while Vecer's Janko Rath received an award for his picture of a policeman during the 2005 Euromayday parade in Maribor.
