Shanghai, 09 April

Slovenia's top swimmer Peter Mankoc has won silver in the men's 100 metres medley final at the World Swimming Championships in China's Shanghai.

Defending his World Championships title in 100 metre medley, Mankoc clocked in at 53.00 seconds, coming in behind South Africa's Ryk Neethling (52.42), while he managed to beat Sweden's Stefan Nystrand (53.97).
Mankoc, who broke the world record in 100 metre medley in 2001, was thus beaten for the first time after six years by the current record holder in the event.
"Every series is interrupted sooner or later. Neethling was unbeatable for me today. It's not a big deal. I have to move forward, there will be another match. I am more than happy with silver," Mankoc said after the match.
He admitted he is angry with himself, for he did not swim as good as he could have. "My time is good, given what I was doing in backstroke. I have much work to do there. I feel bad for all the mistakes, for I could have been close to the world record," he added.
This is Mankoc's 20th medal at the world's biggest competitions, and eighth at world championships.
