Govt Establishes Commission for Gas Terminals
The government established an inter-departmental commission which will deal with the planned construction of two liquefied natural gas terminals in the Gulf of Trieste, Environment Minister Janez Podobnik told the press after the session.
The commission, which is a response to recently voiced concerns over the gas terminals by President Janez Drnovsek, will conduct studies on the energy facilities, as well as examine their affects on the maritime environment, Podobnik also said. The six-strong commission, headed by the State Secretary at the Environment Ministry Marko Starman, will moreover oversee the work of the competent ministries.
The commission, whose first report is expected in a month, will furthermore harmonise Slovenia's guidelines and standpoints on joining a comprehensive assessment procedure of cross-border impacts of such interventions on the environment, the minister added.
