Slovenia's gymnast Mitja Petkovsek is continuing with excellent performances on parallel bars in 2006. After winning World Cup meets in Iran's Tehran and France's Lyon, he took another gold on Sunday at the Gymnastics World Cup meet in Germany's Cottbus.
Petkovsek, who finished with 16.075 points, was followed by China's Zhe Feng (15.500) and Greece's Vasileios Colakidis (15.300).
Today's meet concluded the spring part of the 2006 World Cup season, with Petkovsek's three wins a good signal for the May European Championship in Greece's Volos.
"It was great!" said Petkovsek, who became world champion on parallel bars in Australia's Melbourne last year. He admitted however that having no opportunity to warm up, he had not felt good before the competition.
Although he was not pleased with his performance at first, he changed his mind after seeing a recording of his exercise. "It was actually quite good, soft and elegant, better than the competition. Landing could have been better, but I did not lose my balance," he added.
Asked whether he is nervous about the European Championship, knowing that he is the favourite in the parallel bars event, Petkovsek said he has become a true phlegmatic, and actually enjoys the competitions.
The second Slovenian ace, high bar world champion Aljaz Pegan, decided not to take part in the Cottbus event, saying he is not prepared well enough.
