State Looking to Bolster Ties with Research Institutes

Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology Jure Zupan, Development Minister Joze P. Damijan and Jozef Stefan research institute director Jadran Lenarcic, who met on Tuesday as part of the 14th Days of Jozef Stefan, labelled to closer cooperation between researchers and industry as vital for expanding the Slovenian development potential.

Both ministers assured that the state understands the importance of increasing the contribution of the institute and Slovenian science to the country's economic development, according to Lenarcic.
Zupan said that his ministry was currently working on launching a number of human resources management projects. He added that researchers should be given the possibility to test their ideas in findings in practice.
"Innovation and technological development present one of the key areas for Slovenia's future development," said Damijan, adding that innovation and creativity should be values reinforced by the education system.
According to Lenarcic, Slovenia's top research institute worked with 80 to 100 companies yearly in the last 5 years and on the average carried out 375 market projects for businesses and some of the ministries.
