Leipzig, 16 March

As part of the promotion of Slovenian literature at the Leipzig Book Fair, which was opening on Thursday, Slovenia was presenting a Bibliography of Translations of Slovenian Literature into German.

The book, published by the Centre for Slovenian Literature (CSK), features publications of Slovenian literature in German between the 1781 "Blumen aus Krein" (Flowers from Carniola) by Slovenian playwright Anton Tomaz Linhart and the first publications in 2006.
The first part of the book is a chronology of more than 400 works, half of which were published after 1991, according to the CSK. The second part presents anthologies and various collections with around 100 works by Slovenian authors, with a third of them published after 1991, CSK added.
The final part is an alphabetical list of authors, among whom the most translated are poet France Preseren (1800-1849), writers Ivan Cankar (1876-1918) and Zarko Petan (1929), playwright Drago Jancar (1948), and poets Kajetan Kovic (1931) and Srecko Kosovel (1904-1926).
The fair, which closed on 19 March, also showcased books by contemporary poet Maja Vidmar and writers Andrej E. Skubic, Jani Virk and Andrej Blatnik.
The Slovenian stand also hosted a panel on fiction that is difficult to translate and one on the link between literature and politics. It will also issue a booklet in German containing a selection of works of the four Slovenian authors.
