The University of Ljubljana signed a long-term cooperation agreement with Slovenia's premier research institution, the Jozef Stefan Institute, in Ljubljana on Thursday.
The deal, signed by Ljubljana University Chancellor Andreja Kocijancic and the head of the Institute Jadran Lenarcic, "is a small step which will allow cooperation to improve in the future", said Kocijancic.
The agreement will moreover deepen links between the two institutions in teaching and in research, Kocijancic added.
She also believes that cooperation between research and higher education institutions is of key importance for full utilisation of their human resources and infrastructure.
Lenarcic meanwhile said that the agreement would facilitate cooperation and competition and will greatly benefit the institute.
Under the agreement, the University and the Institute will cooperate in applying for and carrying out basic and applied programmes and projects financed by the state.
They will moreover join forces in bidding for and implementing international projects, as well as hosting scientific and expert meetings.
The agreement moreover states that the two institutions will draft, organise and implement study programmes for the first, second and third levels of university studies under the Bologna programme.
