The Slovenian Foreign Ministry has announced plans to establish a strategic forum in cooperation with NGO's in the coming summer. An international conference titled "Southern Caucasus 2008" to take place on 27 and 28 August will be the first event organised by the forum.
The aim of the Strategic Forum Bled is to provide a platform for an in-depth debate on the key challenges Europe is facing in the 21st century and promote cooperation between the state and civil society.
The idea behind the August conference is to determine the geo-strategic importance of the Southern Caucasus for the EU. The event will also contribute to Slovenia's preparation for EU presidency in 2008.
The forum, which is also seen as a way of promoting Slovenia as an active and credible partner in the discussion on upcoming challenges, will start off by organising annual meetings and possibly evolve by taking up other forms of activities in the future.
