Survey: Bird Flu Causes Little Alarm in Slovenia
A survey published on Saturday by the daily Delo shows that bird flu has not caused any major alarm among Slovenians. The people moreover trust anti-bird flu measures, and believe to be relatively well informed about bird flu developments.
Two-thirds of those polled by the polling firm Delo Stik believe it is rather unlikely that people could get infected with the bird flu virus. A quarter are convinced that this is not an option at all, and only 10.5% think it is possible that people could catch the virus.
Asked to assess the measures taken to prevent the spread of bird flu by Slovenian authorities, more than 68% of respondents considered them "adequate". The number of those who consider them "inadequate" is nearly 28%.
Slightly over 60% all those polled said the relevant services are doing "a good job" in informing the public about bird flu. Just over 15% rated the information campaign as "very good", while around a quarter are unhappy with it.
The survey moreover shows that the polled are confident that the poultry bought at shops is safe to eat, with as many as 85% excluding the possibility of getting infected from such poultry. The opposite opinion was voiced by 11.4% of a total of 618 respondents.
