Centre for Disease Control Expands Bird Flu Quarantine Zone
The National Centre for Disease Control expanded on Wednesday a three-kilometre quarantine zone near Maribor, linking the quarantine zones of Maribor and the nearby village of Spodnji Duplek.
The centre discussed the results of the lab tests of two swans which confirmed the presence of the H5 virus, the head of the Veterinary Administration (VURS) Vida Cadonic Spelic said on Wednesday.
It expanded the zone, as one of the swans was found in the village of Dogose, outside the existing three-kilometre zones, she explained.
The second swan was found in the already declared quarantine zone in Maribor. The centre, however, did not expand the existing 10-kilometre prevention zones.
Cadonic Spelic moreover said that she has tasked the Veterinary Faculty to draft a vaccination plan for the country's poultry.
The total number of swans found in or in the vicinity of Maribor that were infected with bird flu now amounts to ten.
So far only one of the swans has been confirmed to have had the lethal N1 subtype of the bird flu virus, while results for three others are expected in the coming days.
