Slovenia Honours Mozart's Genius
Slovenia joined worldwide celebrations in honour of the 250th anniversary of the birth of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart on 27 January with a series of events featuring the works of this musical genius.
While the Slovenian Philharmonics Orchestra is to perform Mozart's Grosse Messe (Great Mass) No. 17 in C minor K427 (1782), a rich programme is also scheduled at the public broadcaster RTV Slovenija. Friday's programme at Radio Slovenija was marked by live broadcasts of a Mozart recital performed in one of RTV's studios, and of the Idomeneo opera performed at the Theater an der Wien. The radio and television programmes dedicated to Mozart extended throughout the weekend. A special tribute was at the Narodni dom in Celje, where Mozart's work took on a new dimension with an ensemble of harmonicas. The city of Maribor bowed to the genius on Thursday already, with a performance of four string quartets at the Kazinska dvorana hall.
