Delo's Person of the Year is Igor Akrapovic
The person of the year 2005, as chosen by Slovenia's leading daily Delo, is the entrepreneur and CEO of Akrapovic izpusni sistemi (Akrapovic exhausts) Igor Akrapovic.
According to Delo's editorial board, Akrapovic was chosen for his professional and personal characteristics, business achievements and his contribution to the recognisability of the Slovenian economy in the world.
Delo correspondent Mitja Mersol said upon presenting the award on Tuesday in Ljubljana that Akrapovic "personifies everything that Slovenia is about to experience in the future with the impeding government-sponsored economic reforms".
The head of a successful company for manufacturing exhaust systems for motorcycles said that the award came as a surprise for him. Akrapovic added that he maybe earned it by employing over 230 people, whom he tries to reward as best as he can.
The most successful Slovenian motorcyclist with a ten-year career culminating in several championship titles in the F1 and SBK classes, established his company in 1990 in the town of Ivancna Gorica (central Slovenia).
Based on his own experience as a racer, he began manufacturing exhaust systems, becoming a household name in the world of motorcycle exhausts in less than a decade.
Akrapovic was named the 2004 Entrepreneur of the Year by the magazine Podjetnik. His company is currently planning to enter the car exhausts market.
