A peaceful and successful year for Slovenia is drawing to a close. The country has enjoyed months of economic growth while achieving the lowest inflation rate in its history and fulfilling the demanding criteria for eurozone membership, Prime Minister Janez Jansa said in his New Year's message on Friday.
As a member of the EU and NATO, Slovenia's future is as secure as possible, Jansa claimed in the message.
Our successful negotiating skills have allowed us to be a recipient of EU development funds in the next eight years. EU funds combined with our own money will allow us to speed up the country's development, especially in the poorest parts, he added.
"The world around us is changing at an ever faster pace, which is why we came up with a Development Strategy and took measures that will prepare us for the changes. We want to achieve prosperity for all without forgetting our cultural and social development, solidarity and the need to protect the environment," Jansa said.
"I wish you a peaceful, safe and healthy 2006", Jansa ended his message.
