Slovenian rowing champions Iztok Cop and Luka Spik have been selected for the "Name of the Year" award handed out by public broadcaster RTV Slovenija's radio station Val 202.
The duo, who became world champions in the double sculls in September in Japan, was chosen among the 12 winners of the "name of the month" award. They received the award on Thursday in Ljubljana.
Other candidates for the prestigious award included PM Janez Jansa, World Champion ski jumper Rok Benkovic, actor Jurij Soucek and unionist Dusan Semolic, among others.
The finalists select the winner among themselves.
The "name of the month" came from a number of more or less famous names from politics, arts and culture, or sports, which had been selected by the listeners of Val 202 - some 75,000 cast their votes this year - each Monday throughout the year in the "name of the week" competition.
