Architect and professor Vojteh Ravnikar is the recipient of the prestigious Herder Prize, awarded each year for achievements in the field of culture, the Ljubljana Faculty of Architecture said on Friday.
The prize will be conferred on 5 May 2006 at the University of Vienna. It also includes a scholarship for graduate studies at any of the Vienna faculties for a candidate from Slovenia, to be chosen by Ravnikar.
The Herder Prize has been conferred annually since 1964 by the Hamburg-based Alfred Toepfer Fund. It is designed to encourage cultural ties with countries of Eastern Europe and pay tribute to important contributions to European culture by authors from these countries.
Recent Slovenian recipients of the Herder Prize include painter Janez Bernik (2001) and author Drago Jancar (2003).
