Film Director Cvitkovic Bags Two Awards in Cottbus
Acclaimed director Jan Cvitkovic's black comedy "Gravehopping" was conferred best feature film award and best festival film award given out by the ecumenical jury at the 15th Eastern Europe Film Festival in Cottbus, Germany on Sunday, according to the production house Staragara.
"Gravehopping" is scheduled for general release on Thursday in Ljubljana, Maribor and Celje, after its Slovenian premiere at the 16th Ljubljana Film Festival gained a lot of attention.
The Cottbus festival jury unanimously proclaimed "Gravehopping" best feature film, featuring Gregor Bakovic, Drago Milinovic, Sonja Savic, Mojca Fatur and Brane Grubar.
The prize of EUR 15,000 is donated by the "Gesellschaft zu Warnehmung von Film- und Fernsehrechten" from Munich.
"From beginning to end, from birth to the grave, from laughter to crying, from love to murder, the film takes us on a riskful journey that demands courage from the director as well as the audience," the main jury said.
The two Cottbus awards are the third and fourth for "Gravehopping" after it won the Altadis Award for best debut or second film upon its world premiere in Spain's San Sebastian. It has also been voted best festival film in Warsaw, where it got the CentEast Award.
