Some 10,000 Books Exhibited at "Frankfurt after Frankfurt"

Ljubljana, 3 November

The 19th annual exhibition of foreign literature "Frankfurt after Frankfurt" is staged at Ljubljana's arts and conference centre Cankarjev dom from 3 to 8 November.

The book fair, organised by Konzorcij, a leading bookstore in the Slovenian capital, will feature some 10,000 publications that had been exhibited at the Frankfurt Book Fair, which closed over a week ago.
This year's event, opened by the new Chancellor of Ljubljana University Andreja Kocijancic, follows the concept of previous fairs in featuring the most representative books from various fields, including science, humanities, medicine, law, arts, fiction.
As Stane Borovnik of Konzorcij explained at a news conference last week, the majority of the publications will be in English and German, while there will be less books this year in French, Spanish and Italian.
The show will put special emphasis on this year's Nobel Prize winner Harold Pinter as well as the recipients of other prestigious awards such as Pulitzer, Whitbread, Booker, and Goncourt.
This fair also marks the year of physics. The main exhibition ground features publications on the latest scientific findings as well as on the history of physics, including numerous books on the work of Albert Einstein.
Also highlighted are works of Slovenian authors published abroad, including contemporary authors Andrej Blatnik, Evald Flisar, Drago Jancar, Feri Lainscek, Brina Svit, and poets Josip Osti and Tomaz Salamun.
Acclaimed Slovenian philosopher Slavoj Zizek is becoming ever more popular. Last year, twelve books (co-)written by him were presented at the fair, while as many as 26 will be showcased this year.
The fair was accompanied by a round table "How to Publish a Book Abroad?" and a discussion "Can Physics be Fun?".
The fair is also an opportunity for visits by representatives of foreign publishers, such as John Wiley & Sons, Oxford University Press and Pearson Education.
