Slovenian Railways and Luka Koper to Strengthen Ties
The Slovenian Railways holding and the country's sea port Luka Koper are planning to join forces in the transport-logistics market, the management boards of both companies agreed on Thursday in Koper.
The marketing departments of both companies have therefore been tasked to draw up the necessary plans to improve technical and operational coordination, and to strengthen marketing activities.
As Slovenian Railways and Luka Koper are interdependent, increased cooperation is the next logical step, explained Suzana Zornada Vrabec, the spokesperson of Luka Koper.
The two companies also agreed that the existing infrastructure should be upgraded and some new built, including a third terminal at the port and a second rail line between the towns of Koper and Divaca.
Robert Casar, the new chair of the Luka Koper management, believes that a "suitable partnership can result in a substantially better utilisation rate of the existing port and railway capabilities".
Furthermore, building stronger ties with Slovenian Railways is a priority task in his operational plan for Luka Koper, Casar added after the meeting with the Railways management.
Slovenian Railways CEO Joze Jurkovic meanwhile said that over 70% of all transports to and from the port is done by his company. "A brave implementation of the cooperation will facilitate the national transport programmes and strategy," he added.
