Luka Spik and Iztok Cop are to be proclaimed the best rowing crew of 2005 at the World Rowing Forum, sources at the Slovenian Rowing Association said.
The event which will take place between 3 and 5 November in Istanbul will award Cop and Spik for their achievements at the recent World Rowing Championships in Japan's Gifu, where they won gold in double sculls and silver in quadruple sculls.
The double medal made them the most successful rowers at the championship, while the prize itself will go to Slovenia for the first time since the forum was launched in 2002.
The women crew of the year award will go to sisters Georgina and Varoline Evers-Swindell from New Zealand. The winners will be officially announced today, the organising International Federation of Rowing Associations (FISA) said.
The two Slovenian medals from Gifu were the 17th and 18th the Slovenian rowers have won in major competitions, with Cop taking part in as many as 13.
