Koprol Says Slovenia, Belgium Agree on EU Budget Deadline
Marcel Koprol, the state secretary for European Affairs, said after talks with Belgian Secretary of State for European Affairs Didier Donfut in Brussels that Slovenia and Belgium agree EU budget talks should wrap up at the EU summit in December.
Belgium and Slovenia have similar views on the 2007-2013 budget framework - that the proposal prepared by the Luxembourg EU presidency is the best basis for a compromise, Koprol told STA on Wednesday.
According to Koprol, the greatest obstacle to an agreement will be Great Britain's desire to keep its rebate, and the wishes of all member states which opposed the Luxembourg proposal, notably Netherlands.
Koprol said that all member states have great expectations about the possibility that budget talks might conclude in December, as the European Commission must soon start drafting the appropriate executive regulations.
