In the first quarter of 2005, 48% of all Slovenian households had Internet access, with 50% of the population aged between 10 and 74 years regularly using the Internet, shows data released by the national Statistical Office.
However, 47% of households had access to the Internet in the first quarter of 2004, when 37% of people aged 16 to 74 were Internet users, compared to this year's 47%, Internet users in the same age group.
A regular Internet user is one who used the web in the three months prior to the survey.
Most users in Q1 used the net to check their e-mail or browse for information. The other reasons include playing and downloading games and music, travel and web periodicals.
The use of the Internet in companies in Q1 increased as well, going up 6% year-on-year in companies with five or more employees and 3% in those with 10 or more employees.
In the January-to-March period, 94% of companies with a minimum of five and 96% of those with a minimum of 10 employees thus had Internet access.
Of those with five or more workers, 57% had an ADSL connection, as did 65% of the companies with ten or more workers, which is 13% more companies more than in the same period last year.
Also on the increase was the number of companies using a modem to access the web. In Q1, 16% of the companies with five or more workers and 15% of those with ten or more workers had modems, which is 6% or 7% more than last year.
