Koprol Happy with Twinning Project in Macedonia

Skopje, 13 October

State Secretary for European Affairs Marcel Koprol told STA on Thursday he was happy with the work of Slovenian representatives in Macedonia on the twinning project to strengthen Macedonia's institutions and adapt legislation on the internal market.

Slovenia got much praise at the meeting in Skopje, Koprol said after attending the conclusion of the project. Macedonia expressed a desire to continue cooperating with Slovenia, which Koprol welcomed, saying the country can always "turn to us".
During his visit to the country, Koprol held meetings with Macedonian Deputy PM in charge of European affairs Radmila Sekerinska and Speaker Ljupce Jordanovski. The officials agreed that the twinning project was very successful, he said.
According to Koprol, the twinning project would not be followed by another one of such magnitude, but mentioned the possibility of smaller projects. Slovenia has been involved in or has been preparing for 13 twinning projects since 2002, all in the Western Balkans.
The project in Macedonia was the first for Slovenia to be entrusted with as one of the first new EU member states. It was to strengthen the basic Macedonian institutions important for the adaptation to EU standards as a prerequisite for EU membership.
The project was implemented by 71 Macedonian and 68 Slovenian experts, working at several Macedonian institutions, including ministries. Twinning is a mechanism to help countries adopt and implement the EU legislation through efficient cooperation between institutions from EU
