Ljubljana, 27 September

The new public broadcaster act will come into force between 10 and 12 November, Culture Minister Vasko Simoniti told the press on Tuesday. He also presented the final procedures regarding the new act, endorsed by a narrow majority in Sunday's referendum.

After the National Electoral Commission announces the official results of the referendum on 14 October, parliament will have to wait for the act to be signed by President Janez Drnovsek, Simoniti explained.
The closing date for forming the new programming and supervisory council is set at 60 days after the act comes into force. According to Simoniti, public call for candidates of both councils will be taken over by a parliament commission.
The supervisory council is obliged to pass a new RTV Slovenija statute in six months, while the programming council has to define programming standards within 90 days. Moreover, the latter is required to publish a job tender for a new RTV Slovenija director general within 15 days after it is established.
