Now that the act on public broadcaster RTV Slovenija was confirmed at referendum, it is up to the government to provide the conditions for implementation, Prime Minister Janez Jansa told the press on Monday.
In response to the referendum 'yes', Jansa said the act would generate results comparable to other European countries: "It is high time that Slovenia enter Europe in this respect," he said.
According to Jansa, the government's moves should be followed by the parliament implementing the necessary procedures to enable all citizens to stand as candidates for managing bodies of the RTV Slovenija.
The act determines the procedures for appointing members of the public broadcaster programming and supervisory boards, and prevents the sort of abuse that the former act allowed under the pretence of civil society, Jansa said.
At the same time, the act determines very strict criteria that the candidates have to meet in order to become members of the managing bodies, the prime minister added.
According to Jansa, the campaign managed to overly politicise the entire contents of the act. Furthermore, the opposition also attempted to solve its internal difficulties by initiating the referendum, Jansa told the press.
