Slovenia Must Focus Tourism Goals, Tourism Association Boss Says
Slovenia must focus its tourism development goals using its knowledge and experience, the head of the Slovenian Tourism Association said at a ceremony to mark 100 years of the organisation.
Marjan Rozic said he believes Slovenia needs a new development vision and government policies that are conducive to the growth of tourism.
Slovenia, he told Saturday's ceremony in the seaside resort of Portoroz, has not used up all of its tourism potential, especially that created with its entry into the EU.
Moreover, he stressed the importance of cooperation between the public and private sector in tourism. Slovenia has all the potential to become a country with the most dynamic tourism sector in the EU, he added.
According to Economics Minister Andrej Vizjak, tourism in Slovenia is at a crossroads. "Tourism must build on quality and work to emphasise the uniqueness of Slovenia," he said.
Parliament Speaker France Cukjati echoed the view that the Slovenian tourism sector still has unexplored potential.
Cukjati believes that the importance of people for tourism is often overlooked. "The first goal of a host should be to please the guest and not to try and make a profit," he said.
He stressed that Slovenia has all the qualities to become a prime tourist destination. It has many beautiful sites spread across a small area and there is no shortage of good and friendly people, he added.
