Jansa Confident Ecological Zone Bill Would be Passed

Ljubljana, 22 September

Prime Minister Janez Jansa was confident after Thursday's meeting with the heads of parliamentary parties that the bill on the declaration of an ecological zone in the Adriatic would be endorsed in parliament.

"All party representatives...promised almost unanimous support, which means that the bill has not only sufficient, but near consensual support," Jansa told the press after the meeting. The opposition confirmed the support, but was less enthusiastic about the meeting, stressing that it came too late considering how important the matter is. The bill this week won the endorsemnt of the parliamentary foreign affairs and environment committees.
