Cankarjev Dom Celebrates 25th Anniversary
Cankarjev dom, the largest cultural institution in Slovenia, celebrated 25 years of cultural performances and shows on Monday, 19 September. The ceremony was launched by director general Mitja Rotovnik, who has been running Cankarjev dom since 1982.
The programme included concerts by an accordion orchestra, films showing the construction of the building and performances that took place, the presentation of a book of photos of events off the stage, and an exhibition of posters for the shows staged within the last five years.
In its 25-year history the Cankarjev dom has played host to more than 385,000 artists, with five different events being staged every day on average. The institution's total income since its inception is estimated at SIT 45bn (EUR 187.82m).
Every year the cultural and arts programme of Cankarjev dom includes 40 events for which less than 15% of available tickets are sold, while 30% of the events are sold-out. The most expensive ticket so far was for the concert of Luciano Pavarotti in 1997.
Cankarjev dom was constructed in 1980 and includes 13 halls of various sizes and several other venues, totaling just over 35,500 square metres.
