Slovenia Has Adequate Food and Veterinary Control, Team Finds

Ljubljana, 9 September

European food and veterinary inspectors established during a five-day visit to Slovenia that the country's plant passport requirements system was functioning well, head of the National Phytosanitary Administration Katarina Groznik told public broadcaster Radio Slovenija on Friday.

The inspectors also checked the adequacy of the control system in the areas affected by fireblight. They confirmed that the areas where the disease has spread, mostly in the north and north west, will be unable to maintain their status of a protected zone in the future.
Groznik added that the European inspectors also positively assessed the control system for the corn rootworm, even though the protective measures would have to be stepped up.
The inspectors also checked the implementation of European legislation in Slovenia in plant protection and traceability on the common European market through a system of plant passports.
