Govt Amends Indicative Programme for Schengen Facility

Ljubljana, 08 September

The government has amended the indicative programme for the Schengen Facility for the 2004-2006 period and authorised the Government Office for European Affairs (SVEZ) to harmonise the amendments with the European Commission.

Meanwhile, the appropriate ministries were urged to launch fund phasing procedures before the formal adoption of the appropriate Commission decision on Slovenia's share of the Schengen Facility for 2005, the government decided on Thursday.
The indicative programme, which Slovenia submitted to the European Commission in May, envisages total funding for Slovenia in the amount of EUR 119.83m. The funds are one-off assistance to newcomers on the new external EU borders, which have to beef up border security in line with Schengen standards.
The supplemented programme takes into account the Commission's remarks about salaries for policemen who were employed before the 1 May 2004 EU entry. It is also harmonised with the Commission's instructions on VAT, taxes and social security contributions and the lease of property.
