The Government has adopted a programme for the setting-up of commercial offices abroad. The programme will enable the provision of more complete services for Slovenian companies and will at the same time ensure better territorial and material coverage of international markets.
The objectives behind the programme are the protection of Slovenia’s business and national interests, assisting Slovenia’s commercial sector in the internationalisation of its operations, the promotion of the Republic of Slovenia and its economy around the world, the representation of the commercial interests of the Republic of Slovenia abroad, and the provision of quality and effective services for Slovenian companies in international operations and the systematic energising of foreign investors on specific target markets. These objectives and activities will be achieved by building up the existing network of economic advisers at diplomatic and consular missions, and where these do not exist, through representative offices of the public agency.
The programme for the setting-up of commercial offices abroad sets out the basic guidelines for the choice of location of representative offices and the ways in which they will operate, and defines standards for staff at the offices and the management and coordination of their work.
In addition to the funds already set aside from the budget of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the work of economic advisers, the Ministry of the Economy has envisaged a further SIT 400 million in 2006 and SIT 500 million in 2007 for the upgrading of the network.
