The Prime Minister Meets Students

Prime Minister Janez Janša met with representatives of the Students' Organisation of Slovenia (ŠOU).

The Prime Minister and the student representatives exchanged opinions on issues concerning the student population. After the meeting, the Prime Minister made the following statement: "As Prime Minister, I am pleased that student representatives are not merely interested in the settling of certain questions of status related to their immediate living and study conditions, but also in strategic decisions relating to the educational process in Slovenia."

Mr Janša and the ŠOU representatives were of the same opinion with regard to the key strategic orientations of the Government. "First, it is our common aim to ensure a quality of studies that means that young people coming out of this process will be capable of using this knowledge. That they will be competitive in Europe and in the globalised world in general," said Mr Janša, adding: "The second strategic goal is to ensure that young people start with the same opportunities. This means that the State must ensure, as far as possible, that potentials of knowledge are exploited to the greatest possible degree. That it is not social position that differentiates between young people, but simply the amount of effort and energy each individual is prepared to invest in obtaining a vital qualification for the future."
