Slovenian Films at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival

The 40th Karlovy Vary international film festival in the Czech Republic opened on 1 July, and will show 220 films and 40 short films from all over the world until the end of the festival on 9 July. The

Slovenian film Uglaševanje (Tuning) by Igor Šterk will be competing among the fourteen films in the running for the main prize, the Crystal Globe and 20,000 US dollars, as well as for four other official prizes. There are two other Slovenian contributions to the festival. Vinko Moederndorfer's debut film Predmestje (Suburbs) will feature in the Variety Critics' Choice section, Europe Now! with nine other European films, after being selected by Derek Elly of Variety magazine. Jan Burger's film Ruševine (The Ruins) will be shown in the East of the West section with another 14 films from central and eastern Europe, with a prize of about 9,100 euro going to the winning director.
