Prime Minister Says the Coalition is Working Well
Following a meeting of the ruling coalition's leadership, the Prime Minister, Janez Janša, assessed that it had functioned well during its first six months.
He said that over that time they had addressed and realised their set objectives both in the legislative sphere and in preparing the strategic reforms planned for the first half of the year. He said that coalition was as firm if not firmer than when it first came together. Mr Janša said this half-year period concluded the adoption of Slovenia's development strategy, with the basic objectives of the coalition manifesto having been built into Slovenia's long-term development strategy. The Prime Minister said the Government not only operated on the basis of the coalition document, but also on the basis of Slovenia's formal development strategy. Mr Janša said the coalition has now concluded the first phase of its work, and was entering the second, so the meeting also looked ahead. The President of the NSi, Mr Andrej Bajuk, said that the work the coalition had done to date gave grounds for satisfaction, though some members of the coalition expressed concerns regarding economic development. The head of the SLS party Janez Podobnik said that the coalition had done well in its first six months, but warned that half a year was not long enough to give a complete assessment. The head of the DeSUS party, Karl Erjavec, said that the coalition was putting its manifesto into practice, and that in its first few months it had met most of its objectives from its legislative programme, and that the Government and coalition's success was confirmed by the high level of public approval.
