Moederndorfer Wins Best Director Award in Slovakia
The Slovenian director Vinko Moederndorfer won the award for best director at the 13th International Film Festival Art Film, which took place between 17 and 25 June in Trencianske Teplice in Slovakia. Moederndorfer received a "Blue Angel" for his film "Suburbs", for which he also wrote the screenplay, the website of the festival says.
This psychological drama about xenophobia has already been honoured with a special jury award in Annonay, France, and chosen by the young audience as the best film at the festival in Montpellier, France.
Furthermore, Tadej Tos, who is playing Nebojsa in the film, has recently received the award for best male leading role at the Alba Regia International Film Festival in Szekesfehervar, Hungary.
Around 170 films from 30 countries were included in three competition and nine non-competition programmes. Beside the Slovenian film, the main competition programme also featured entries from Hungary, Poland, the Czech Republic and Italy, and co-productions by Austria and Germany, Japan and Taiwan, and France and Austria.
A nine-strong international jury, headed by the Russian poet, writer, director and actor Yevgeny Yevtusenko, also conferred "Blue Angels" for best director of photography and best actress.
A special award, "Golden Camera", for filmmakers who have advanced the film art, went to Slovakian cameraman Tibor Biath and the Hungarian director Miklos Jancso.
