Three Slovenian art projects will be featured at the LIPA Gallery (short for Links for International Promotion of the Arts) in the centre of Chicago between 10 June and 8 July.
The projects to be showcased are "Memory - a History of Slovenian Graphic Design", an interactive exhibition of digital photography by Martin Briclj; "Sixpack", a touring show of Slovenian contemporary architecture; and "Any sharp objects?", a show featuring 12 fashion designers.
Briclj's project uses the pattern of the popular game "Memory" to present the author's photographs of abstract graphic details of urban space. It is designed at three levels: as a gallery exhibition, an interactive web game available at www.memory play.com and as a cardboard box of the Memory game which also functions as a catalogue.
The artist designed two versions of this project. One features his photographs of details of European capitals, while the other is composed of play tablets with motifs from Slovenian graphic design from the 1950s to 1990s. This version will be shown in Chicago.
Sixpack showcases works by young architects from six Slovenian architecture studios. They all studied abroad, at institutions such as Architectural Association, Berlage Institute and UCLA.
"Any sharp objects?" is an exhibition featuring textiles and clothes by eleven Slovenian designers. They designed eleven variations on the topic of travel and put their designs into 11 suitcases.
The title of the show makes a metaphoric reference to the customary question posed by officials upon baggage inspection at airports, with references to terrorism, security, control and discipline.
