Slovenian Tourist Association Celebrates 100 Years

Ljubljana, 13 June

The Tourist Association of Slovenia (TZS) is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year, which the association's president Marjan Rozic hopes will provide an impetus to the country's tourist development.

Holding a news conference on Monday, Rozic said that the Slovenian tourist sector still has a lot of potential, notably in youth tourism and wine trails. Special attention should also be paid to clean environment, he added.
Asked about the shortcomings of the sector, Rozic said that Slovenia's tourism is making progress, but too slowly, and is unable to develop all of its potential due to a lack of know-how.
While everybody agrees that tourism is one of the country's key industries, all measures that are being adopted do not reflect that, Rozic highlighted.
The association, which currently gathers almost 600 tourism societies, was set up in 1905 under the name "Association for Promotion of Visits of Foreigners in the Province of Carniola". The first tourist society on the Slovenian territory was established in Celje in 1871.
A series of events are planned throughout the year to mark the anniversary, with the main ceremony to be held in Portoroz on 24 September.
