Five wines, three of them from Slovenia, were crowned world champions at the Ljubljana International Wine Tasting that was held between 3 and 6 June.
In the category of dry white wines with residual sugar, the 2001 Sauvignon produced by Slovenia's Joze Prus was declared world champion.
The winery Vinakoper won the same title in the category of dry red wines for its 1999 Refosk Capo D'Istria, while Istenic won in the category sparkling wines with its 1999 white sparkling wine Gourmet Brut.
The 2004 Traminer from the Swiss winery Les Fils Maye won the title among dry white wines, while the 1975 Sauvignon Muskadel (from South Africa's KWV International) was awarded among liqueur wines.
The 64 judges tested 736 wines from 24 countries. The awards will be conferred in Ljubljana on 16 June.
