Druga Godba Festival Gets Underway
The 21st annual Druga godba festival of world music opened on Monday with a concert featuring Huun Huur Tu, the masters of throat-singing from Tuva, a republic in northwestern Mongolia.
The festival, which closes on 11 June, will focus on rhythms of Central Asia, which, according to its organisers, have so far been somehow neglected by Druga godba.
Music-lovers will also be able to listen to traditional music of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.
The guitar hero of contemporary Malian music Djelimady Tounkara will be another treat of the festival, to name but a few.
Jazz and contemporary improvised music will be presented by Evelyn Petrova, an accordionist and singer from Russia, and Italian piano player Livio Minafra.
Nacao Zumbi of Brazil will play mangue beat which he patented by laying down crazy fusions of hip-hop, funk, soul, guitar riffs and the traditional rhythms of maracatu, coco and samba.
The highlight, however, comes on the last day of the festival when the King of Rai, Algerian pop star Khaled, returns to the Krizanke open-air venue after it put in on fire years ago.
