EU Budget: Slovenia Contribution Down to EUR 285M

Brussels, 6 June

Slovenia's contribution to the EU budget for this year will amount to EUR 285m instead of the initially planned EUR 300m. This was disclosed in Brussels on Monday after the European Commission adjusted member states' contributions for a second time this year.

Fresh economic data and a surplus in the Guarantee Fund for external actions last year are the main reasons for the latest modification. In mid-May the Commission proposed a reduction in the contributions as a result of a surplus in the 2004 budget.
While the surplus of EUR 2.7bn that was transferred from the previous to this fiscal year brought down the contributions of all members by a total of EUR 737m, this time around contributions were reduced for 11 members, including Slovenia, while contributions of 14 members were adjusted up.
