EU Steel Industry Summit to Take Place in Ljubljana

Ljubljana, 6 June

The European steel industry umbrella organisation Eurofer is to launch a two-day conference on Thursday in Ljubljana. Hosted by the Slovenian Steel Group (SIJ), this year's event is to analyse conditions on the steel market in a bid to set future guidelines for the industry.

The European Confederation of Iron and Steel Industries (Eurofer) comprises 33 companies and 10 national associations from EU member states. Its purpose is to encourage cooperation between steel companies and boost the development of the European steel industry.
Hosting the conference, which is to be a meeting point of around 90 managers of the most important European steel companies, is a great recognition for the Slovenian Steel Group, the group has said in a press release.
The event will also feature the topmost experts in steel production, the SIJ added in the press release.
Starting with a round table discussion, the conference is scheduled to comprise an assembly session of the Eurofer association, followed by a plenary session.
Addressing the participants will be the Eurofer director general Dietrich von Huelsen, Steve Mackrell of the Iron and Steel Statistics Bureau and director of industrial technologies with the European Commission Ezio Andreta.
The Eurofer association represents 95% of all the steel companies in Europe, employing over 300,000 people, producing over 200 million tonnes of steel annually and generating over EUR 130bn in sales revenues.
